Business Licenses
Ready to start a business in Kimberley? Great! Your first step with the City of Kimberley will be to obtain a business license.
All businesses located in or providing services within City of Kimberley boundaries must be in possession of a valid business license. The business licensing process ensures consumers that businesses are operating in a safe manner.
For the business community, the licensing process provides a nominal contribution toward the cost of providing essential business infrastructure such as roads, water, sewer, and snow removal. Licensed businesses are also offered the opportunity to be listed in the business license directory located on InvestKimberley.com
Download the City’s Business License Application Form or pick one up at City Hall, 340 Spokane Street.
For help with licensing, you can use the BizPaL Online Business Permits and Licenses Service (link is external). It will give you information as to what information is required, and what type of business license and permits you may require.
Business licenses run for a full calendar year and are pro-rated to one-half the price for businesses starting up after August 1st. Business Licenses fees vary as set out in Bylaw No. 1325, Kimberley Business License Bylaw 1979.
Inter-Community Business Licenses
On November 14, 2016, City Council adopted the 'City of Kimberley Inter-Community Business License Bylaw No. 2552, 2016'. This new type of business license will make doing business in both Cranbrook and Kimberley easier for you.
As of January 1, 2017, mobile businesses can operate in Kimberley and Cranbrook without having to apply for businesses licences from both municipalities. Supported by the Kimberley and Cranbrook Chambers of Commerce, this is a clear win for the busy mobile entrepreneur! For more information on fees and who can apply, please view the full bylaw here.
