Crews On-Site at Small Fire West of City of Kimberley
Provincial Fire Fighters are working to extinguish a small 0.5-hectare fire west of the City of Kimberley. The fire, which began on Sunday, August 2, is believed to have been caused by lightning. Though overnight wind conditions were high, the fire has not changed in size.
The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) has deemed the fire a top priority. Weather conditions are favourable and BCWS ground crews are working on gaining access to the fire as it is located near the top of a mountain. Air tankers and bucket helicopters will be skimming on St. Mary’s Lake today so please use caution on the lake.
The City of Kimberley Emergency Operations Centre has been activated at Level 1. We will continue to provide updates as they become available. The public can also watch for updates on the provinces B.C. Wildfire Dashboard found here: https://bit.ly/3go2XXi.
