Kimberley Aquatic Centre Gearing Up to Re-Open
Staff at the Kimberley Aquatic Centre are preparing to re-open following a long shut-down due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. Aquatic Centre staff are planning to welcome patrons on July 6th with limited programming that will include Aquafit, therapy programs, parent and tot programs, seniors programs, and public and family swims.
Patrons will be required to register and pay for all programming online. The new registration system will be live later in June and can be found on the City’s website at www.kimberley.ca. Several other COVID-19 safety protocols are in place including new and separate entrance and exit and physical distancing requirements. Swimmers must come dressed in swimwear and there is limited use of change rooms.
Current Provincial Health Orders limit building occupancy to 40 patrons and 10 staff though, those restrictions may lift in the coming months as the province moves through phased re-opening.
“Pool staff have been waiting a long-time for this day,” said Nicole Halasz, the City of Kimberley’s new Manager of Parks and Facilities. “Our renovations are complete and our COVID-19 safety plans are in place. We now feel that we can offer the community safe access to the pool. While we encourage all those who are able to register online for swim times, staff will be available to help anyone requiring assistance to book a swim by phone at 250-427-2983. Keep an eye on our website at www.kimberley.ca to find program registration times and of course the City will announce availability of that system as soon as it becomes available. I’d like to thank the pool team for their perseverance during this tough year. I’d also like to thank Kimberley residents for their patience and understanding. We look forward to welcoming the community back!”
