Prescribed Burn Coming to Nature Park
The Kimberley Fire Department will be conducting a controlled pile burn in the Kimberley Nature Park this week. This important wildfire mitigation measure is part of our City's approved Wildfire Management Plan and helps reduce the risk of larger, uncontrolled wildfires.
We recognize that smoke can be disruptive, but weather conditions over the next few days are favorable for swift smoke dissipation, and the burn is being carefully managed to minimize impact. This practice is also in line with traditional land management techniques used by Indigenous peoples, who have long recognized the benefits of controlled burns for maintaining healthy forests.
While chipping may seem like an alternative, it is significantly more expensive and less effective in reducing wildfire risks.
We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to keep our community safe.
